Review of “Badlands Witch”

Badlands Witch (Cormac and Amelia Story)

Badlands Witch by Carrie Vaughn

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The second Cormac and Amelia only has me waiting for the third (supposedly coming out in the future).

If you are not familiar, Cormac is a former werewolf and vampire hunter introduced during the Kitty Norville series. Amelia is a long-dead English woman who cohabitates his body after his time in prison. Together, they are unique detectives like you will ever meet. This story brings them to South Dakota, where a figure from Cormac’s past is looking for revenge.

The story is unique and fast-paced. Told mostly in the first person by Cormac, it reflects the direct tone that you would expect from the character. There are not a lot of surprises, and if you are familiar with the Norville universe, then it all makes sense.

The ending is a surprise and has a hint of a new (and intriguing) romance.
